Province Preparing New Cyberbullying Legislation

New cyberbullying legislation is being drafted by the Nova Scotia government.

The province is working on a new act after the previous one was struck down by the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia.

The court ruled the definition of cyberbullying in the former act was overly broad.

The Nova Scotia government accepted the ruling and is not appealing the decision.

Justice Minister Diana Whalen says the next several months will be spent gathering input to make sure the new act is strong, protects the public and addresses concerns raised in the court decision.

The new legislation could be introduced this fall.
