The Nova Scotia Government is giving $1 million to adult day programs for Nova Scotians with disabilities.
The money will be distributed to adult service centres, residential and other community service providers.
David Outhouse with Bonny Lea Farms says they will be applying for grant money.
He says it’s always exciting when governments provides opportunities to apply for money.
“It’s always, I think, a very promising piece when governments recognize the need to invest,” he says.
“I think disability support programs is a sector that’s really starting to blossom in this province.”
Outhouse says the programs are facing higher demands for support.
It’s a way to give access to more people.
“The individuals who would be sitting on wait-lists for a program, or who require more individualized, inclusive and integrated programming that currently we aren’t able to provide.”
He says one of the way Bonny Lea Farm would use the money is to continue building modifications to make the building more accessible.
They would also look at specialized training for staff.
The province is encouraging organizations like Bonny Lea Farms to apply for grants to increase recreation, employment and day programming.
Deadline is January 5th.
