Queens County Goes Big For Food Bank

The shelves of the Queens County food bank will be overflowing after this weekend.

Queens County RCMP along with MLA Kim Masland were collecting donations at Liverpool Superstore Saturday.

They managed to fill a cruiser with thousands of dollars worth of food and picked up cash donations totalling over $600.

RCMP Constable Rob James says knowing the effect the donations have in the community makes the day worthwhile.

“Incredible boost. To put it in perspective, the lady that runs it – Charlotte, last year cried when she saw the take we brought in. And it does helps a lot of people in need.”

James says the community found many ways to give to the food bank.

“There was a number of people who, when they accrued so many President’s Choice points would get this little gift pack of four or five toothbrushes and toothpaste, a little dental hygiene kit for families. And they would just walk out and donate them to us. It was incredible.”

James says he’s grateful to Liverpool Superstore for not only providing the space but also making many donations and keeping volunteers warmed with cider.
