Nova Scotia Power is investigating what appears to be intentional damage to some of its equipment.
Spokesperson Tiffany Chase says early last evening approximately 6200 customers in the Tri Counties experienced flickering lights or power interruptions, some multiple times.
“A visual inspection of the affected line revealed shot gun shells were found underneath a transmission pole. We saw damage to three insulators that were connected to that electrical line.”
Chase says the damage occurred in Lower East Pubnico.
She says the RCMP were notified by the crew and NSP’s corporate security investigators are also looking into it.
Chase says the lines are high voltage.
“Aside from the vandalism aspect of this incident, it could be a very dangerous situation to be in and around our electrical lines at any time. If there had been contact or the lines had fallen down as a result of this, there would have been a high risk to public safety. We encourage people to stay at least 6-metres away from any such line if at all possible.”
