Please Don’t Visit The Hospital If You’re Sick Says NSHA

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is asking people not to visit the hospital if they’re feeling sick.

It says viruses, like the ones that cause the flu and colds, spread easily from person to person and are more serious for those who are already ill.

Spokesperson Fraser Mooney says that’s why visitor restrictions have been put on place for the Alternative Level of Care Unit at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.

He says many patients are seniors and some have displayed signs of a flu-like symptom and they want to curtail it from spreading.

Mooney says there are practices that people can put in place to help mitigate the risk.

“Don’t visit other patients if you’re sick and always remember to practice good hand washing techniques, cover your coughs and sneezes and stay home and get better.”

Mooney says he couldn’t say how long the visitor restriction could be in place at the ALCU.

He says it will monitored on a daily basis.

In a release the Health Authority says influenza, or flu, symptoms include sudden onset of: fever, headache, cough, general aches and pains, fatigue and weakness, a runny, stuffy nose, sneezing and sore throat.
