Portland Approves Two-Year Lease Agreement For Yarmouth Ferry Service

All systems are go for a ferry service from Yarmouth to Portland, Maine.

The City of Portland approved a lease agreement with Bay Ferries to use terminal space.

Mayor Ethan Strimling says it’s a two-year deal with an option for a third.

“We have a lot of work that has to happen in the pier area and I think this will give us an opportunity to see if it’s working and then after a couple years, see if we need to make some adjustments to how the landing comes in and how people get on and off the boat.”

Bay Ferries will provide $150,000 to Portland to dock its ferry daily from June 15 to September 30.

Strimling adds it was a unanimous decision.

“We’re very excited to rebuild this relationship, this international relationship and start to share some passengers between our two communities.”

Strimling says there is no transport trucks permitted because space is tight with lots of development happening right now.
