The “Depave Paradise” project, organized by Bluenose Coastal Action Group, is the first of it’s kind in Atlantic Canada.
Ernie O’Neil volunteered to lend a hand with the heavy lifting.
He hopes to see more projects like these to prevent rain water from carrying salt and chemicals into the river.
“Lots of pavement, and it needs to be dug up and if nothing else just move the pavement so there’s a little bit of a chance for stuff to sink in.”
The group completed the bulk of the project on Friday but, ironically, rain put a dent in their weekend plan.
They plan to finish up as soon as weather will allow.p;
