Visitors to Lunenburg will have a whole new way of finding out about the town this summer.
The Lunenburg Board of Trade has set up an online interactive map to help inform tourists of services and events around the town.
Board president Kathleen Quinlin says moving the map online means information can be displayed in real time.
“I want to park down by the water – is that parking lot available? If the parking lot is full it would show this parking lot is full, and here are the alternative places you can go and park.”
Quinlin says she has seen this system work in other tourist cities around the world.
QR codes have been placed on the town’s paper maps and on some of the town signage.
Quinlin explains how the QR code works.
“It’s like a scanner. I guess the best way to think of it is, when you go into a store and they scan a code or a bar, that’s what the QR code does. It scans and then immediately it takes you to the map.”
Quinlin says the map can be used in real time to find parking, announce restaurant specials or promote events.
The map is expected to go live on June 1.
She’s excited to see how businesses will use the platform to promote themselves.
