Some early childhood educators in the province have some concerns about the pre-primary plan being touted by the Liberals on the campaign trail.
Fully funded programing for four-year-olds was announced by the Liberals in April, who said it could save families up to $10,000 a year.
Donna Buckland with Early Childhood Education Action Group Nova Scotia says the plan is flawed, starting with the ratio of children to teachers.
“The thing that bothers us the most is the ratio. The 2 to 25 ratio is extremely high. We currently run a 1 to 8 ratio in all our preschooler programs.”
Buckland says even if it did work, pulling 9,000 4-year-olds out of daycare would cost jobs for daycare workers.
In a statement Thursday, the Liberals say the plan is well thought out and done in consultation with early childhood education experts.
