Bridgewater CAO Retiring on September 1

After working for more than 40 years including 19 in the Town of Bridgewater, Ken Smith is ready for retirement.

The town’s chief administrative officer says he will step away from the position on September 1.

Smith has served with several different councils and four mayors.

He says it’s been a pleasure.

“Between staff and the inter-personal dynamics over the years and with the council and seeing how they work hard for the community.”

Smith says a complex part of the job has to do with trying to balance the needs of the residents against limited resources.

“Not saying it wasn’t before but openness and transparency and citizen engagement are becoming more and more important in today’s society. That takes change on everyone’s part because everyone is evolving.”

Smith says he plans to spend time volunteering in the community, focusing on his health and lifestyle and learning more about history.

The town is in the process of hiring a new CAO.

Smith, a father of three sons, will turn 67 years-old on May 31.
