The warden of the Municipality of Chester says they are addressing immediate needs while achieving financial security for the future.
Allen Webber was commenting on this year’s budget, which includes $26.5-million in operations and $9.03-million for capital projects.
There is also $369,000 in grants to community organizations, more than $7-million in mandatory contributions to the province and $50,000 to design high speed internet.
The municipality is also transferring $3.3-million to reserves for future spending to address aging and new infrastructure needs.
Tax rates were also affected in Chester.
The residential rate increased two cents to 70 cents per $100 of assessment while the commercial rate remained unchanged.
There was also a slight increase to waste collection and disposal area rates and a $50 spike in the universal sewer charge.
The municipality will see a four per cent increase in revenue due to the rate hikes.
