Dog Abandoned At Region Of Queens Office

A dog is being assessed after being abandoned at the Region of Queens Municipality office earlier this week.

The dog was left in a kennel with no identification in the parking lot overnight on Tuesday.

Heather Woodin with the SPCA says if you find yourself needing to re-home your pet this isn’t the way to do it.

“There are alternatives out there and so many programs that abandonment should never be an option,” she says. “Not only that, but it’s also illegal under the animal protection act.”

Woodin says the SCPA will work with you to find the best situation for everyone.

“We pass no judgement. We understand that these life changes happen. There are just lots of things that come up that you can’t plan for.”

She says you can even call anonymously.

Meanwhile, the Region of Queens says the pup is safe and sound.

He’s been turned over to another agency to be assessed with an eye of finding him a new home.

The municipality says people should not leave pets at the office under any circumstances as they don’t have the training or resources to deal with unwanted animals.
