Elections Nova Scotia Says ‘No’ To E-voting

Thousands of paper ballots were cast during the recent provincial election.

Despite the surge of communities using e-voting during last year’s municipal election, Elections Nova Scotia isn’t planning to make the switch anytime soon.

Spokesperson Andy Leblanc says a lot would need to change before they would consider it.

“Until such a time that our chief electoral officer is satisfied that the process can happen in a timely pattern without any issues, then we don’t have it.”

Leblanc says the main concern is security.

“The thing that is really paramount is being satisfied that the integrity of the process is in place.”

He says if they ever did decide it was time to go electronic it would take changes to the elections act before it could be implemented.
