Sinkhole Surprises Local MP Following Caucus Meeting

The MP for South Shore – St. Margaret’s admits it is something she’s never seen before.

A large sinkhole suddenly opened on Wednesday in a busy part of downtown Ottawa.

Bernadette Jordan says she and her colleagues were in caucus when the incident occurred.

“We don’t have phones or anything like that in the meeting,” she says, “so none of us knew until we all came out and it was like the streets are shutdown, the power is out in certain parts of the city, evacuations and it was like what just happened.”

Jordan says she was happy to hear no one was injured.

She says the sinkhole along with ongoing construction has caused a bit of a nightmare for traffic in the city.
