Huskilson Fund Helping New Shelburne Medical Clinic

The spirit of Carmen Huskilson continues to encourage people to pay it forward in Shelburne County.

Her parents shared a Facebook post pledging $95,000 to the rebuild of the Shelburne Medical Centre through the Carmen Faith Memorial Fund.

It was upped to $100,000 following a $5,000 contribution from an anonymous man.

Nova Scotia Health Authority Spokesperson, Fraser Mooney, says the fund is a significant achievement.

“The family has taken such a challenging time in their lives and turned it into such a positive thing for the community. We’re just thankful that the family has thought of the Roseway Hospital and the new clinic as being part of that.”

Mooney says the money will be essential in providing programs and services at the new centre.

“One of the great benefits of this is the recruitment and retention of health care professionals to the area who will be able to provide services to young people like Carmen and families like hers on an ongoing basis.”

Huskilson inspired many people to “pay it forward” in her name across Nova Scotia and the country.

The money is expected to go to the Roseway Hospital Foundation to be held until needed.

Huskilson would have turned six years-old this month – she passed away in January.
