The province of Nova Scotia is now the official owners of the Port of Liverpool.
South Shore – St. Margaret’s MP, Bernadette Jordan, says the port has been given to the province through the federal government’s ports asset transfer program.
She says local port ownership opens up new commercial possibilities and maximize their contribution to economic growth and job creation.
It includes a portion of the former Bowater Mersey facility.
Transportation and Infrastructure Minister, Geoff MacLellan, says the acquisition clears the path for private business to bring economic benefits to Queens County and beyond.
This is the first port transferred under program since its launch last April.
