Program Provides 63 Bikes To Youth In Lunenburg County

There are smiles on many kids faces as they received refurbished bikes from the United Way of Lunenburg County.

The group’s annual Bikes for Kids program handed out 63 bicycles yesterday at the Bridgewater Mall.

One recipient is seven year-old Cainen Rioux, who loves his new bike and is looking forward to doing one thing with it.

“Tricks.”

His sister, nine year-old Maggie, says she was impressed by her new wheels.

“I like the color and I like how it is nice and fast.”

The mother of eight year-old Lucas DeMone says her son is very happy to have a bicycle.

Janet Knickle says her son has mild autism.

“And one of his favorite things to do is to watch wheels go around. So, as you know, bikes have wheels, so bikes are one of his favorite things.”

Volunteers with the O’Regan’s Subaru Cycling Team, The Bike Barn and Spin Your Wheels Bike Shop helped refurbish the bikes.

The bikes were given to kids and their parents who can’t afford to purchase them.
