The town of Bridgewater was one of many across the world to celebrate a new milestone in British history.
Queen Elizabeth II surpassed Queen Victoria as the longest-reigning sovereign in Canada’s modern era.
She has been Queen for more than 63 years, seven months.
Bridgewater Mayor David Walker says the Queen is respected and admired.
“She defies stereotypes of age to show that a busy schedule, interest in others and engagement with communities is a recipe for happiness and longevity.”
Roughly 30 people attended the ceremony including some town councillors, members of the RCMP and Bridgewater Police.
There were also members present from the 14 Construction Engineering Squadron and 143 Construction Engineering Flight.
The Queen has made 22 trips to Canada and was here to mark important events such as our centennial and the opening of the Montreal Olympics.
