Comedian Ron James Calling Lunenburg Home For The Summer

A Nova Scotia comedian is calling Lunenburg home for the summer.

Gemini award winner Ron James has begun performing at the Lunenburg Opera House as part of a summer residency.

James’ first show was last Saturday night with others expected on July 1 and in August.

He says it’s fun to perform in the Opera House’s intimate setting.

“It affects the tone of the show in such a way that everybody in the audience feels that it’s just for them, so that’s a great feeling.”

The residency, called Back Home for Summer! is being held in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary.

James says it’s special to perform on home soil.

“To be close to family and old friends and really channeling the spirit of people and place, that’s everything for me. I’ve got four dates at a beautiful little renovated room in a UNESCO historic site, up the street from the Bluenose.”

James, who has been doing stand-up shows for more than 20 years, was voted Comedian of the Year in 2009 and also won a Gemini Award as part of the writing team for This Hour Has 22 Minutes.
