Bridgewater: Habitat House Gets Green Light

A year of delays has kept the new Bridgewater Habitat for Humanity house from making much progress.

Chair Hank Middleton says the problems were mostly to do with the deed to the land.

“It’s a bit complicated and legal. To make a long story short, the registry of deeds had those documents for a very long time. It wasn’t until late February, early March that we started to get some movement.”

With all the legalities out of the way Middleton says they’re finally able to get to work.

He says a family has already been chosen.

The single mom of three is excited to see the new home become a reality over the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, Chris Philips who is in charge of the build says they’re well on their way.

“Right now, you’d come down and see the driveway poured, you’d see a massive big foundation hole and you’d see the actual foundation footings for the walls that are being put in next week.”

Philips says the whole house will be energy efficient and affordable to upkeep.

He says they’re still in need of volunteers, particularly from those who have an electrical or plumbing background.
