Major Bantam Provincial Championships Coming To Liverpool

Hockey teams from around the Nova Scotia are gathering in Liverpool for provincials.

The Queens Place Emera Centre is playing host to the 2018 Nova Scotia Major Bantam Provincial Championships.

The O’Regan’s Subaru Western Hurricanes won the bid to host.

President of the Western Hurricanes Organization Kevin Benjamin says the last time the team hosted provincials was five years ago.

He says they’re very excited to bring back the top Bantam hockey in Nova Scotia.

“The elite level hockey for 13 and 14 year-olds is a great game to watch,” he says.

“It’s fast paced, hard-hitting and very exciting.”

Benjamin says the team has an automatic spot because they’re hosting, but want to earn their position.

Of the 12-team league, the Hurricanes sit fourth.

“They know they’ve got some work to do, and they’re not getting to far ahead of themselves, but they are excited for sure.”

The tournament will see a total of 18 games, with the top 7 teams in the province competing.

Provincials begin March 22nd, with the championship game the following Sunday, March 25.

Teams will be determined following a play-off series beginning early next month.
