‘Leave A Light On’ For Those Lost To Sea This Weekend

It’s a sombre anniversary in Southwestern Nova Scotia.

Five years ago, on February 17th, 2013, five fishermen were lost at sea as the ‘Miss Ally’ ran into trouble off Woods Harbour.

The overturned vessel and some debris were found days later, however the young captain, Katlin Nickerson, and his crewmembers Billy Jack Hatfield, Tyson Townsend, Joel Hopkins and Cole Nickerson were never found.

To remember these young men and all those lost to the sea, the Municipality of Barrington is reminding people to ‘leave a light on’ today and tomorrow.

They encourage residents to leave their porch or back door lights on in memory.

The Seal Island Light Museum will also be lit to mark the tragic anniversary.
