A flag raising ceremony in Shelburne will recognize the Acadia First Nation.
It’s a first in the town that will see the Mi’kmaq Nations flag and possibly, the local first nation flag raised for the month of October.
Organizer Jeannette Nickerson says the Mi’kmaq flag features a red cross with a moon and a star.
“The red cross represents man-kind and infinity; the four directions, north, west, south and east. The star represents the forces of the day and the moon represents the forces of the night.”
A small ceremony including drummers and speakers will be held Friday at noon at the town flag pole at the corner of Water and King Streets in Shelburne.
