HRM Donates Two Buses to Bridgewater For Pilot Project

Two buses from the Halifax Regional Municipality are making their way to Bridgewater.

The municipality donated the vehicles to the town as they prepare to implement a pilot project transit service.

The buses are the ‘Metro X’ model used in Halifax.

The buses are eight years-old, have 32 seats, wheelchair lifts and bike racks included.

Bridgewater Mayor David Mitchell says there is still work to be done over the next two months.

“We are still working through the pre-pilot implementation phase and are looking to hire some bus drivers, get them trained and finalize the route so we can begin in the fall.”

Mitchell says he expects a route to be established by mid-summer.

“It may be something like evolves over time, that’s why we have the pilot. If there are areas where no one is taking the bus and other areas where people are saying ‘I wish the bus came over here,’ then we might change it up.”

One bus will serve as a back-up but would be used if there is a special event in town

Mitchell says he expects the bus system will draw people to the community.

Meanwhile, we asked you for your two cents on the bus service coming to Bridgewater.
