A 22-year-old Yarmouth man has been charged with attempted murder.
It relates to an incident last week in which another man was injured from a gunshot.
RCMP Corporal Jennifer Clarke says Ronald Dempsey Higby was arrested without incident last Thursday evening on a trail near the Ellis Road in Yarmouth County.
“He has since been charged with attempted murder with a firearm, endangering the life of a person, breach of probation, and a number of firearms offences. He was held in custody over the weekend and appeared in Yarmouth Provincial Court yesterday. He’s being held in custody until his next court appearance on April 3.”
Corporal Clarke says said that on Thursday a 32-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of an alleged shooting incident in the Regent Street area.
She says the Yarmouth County Ground Search and Rescue Team were called in and discovered parts of a firearm and some ammunition believed to have been used by the suspect.
The RCMP had been looking for a red truck which sped away from the scene.
When asked if it had been located Corporal Clarke says the RCMP are continuing to ask the public for any information.
“Suffice to say we just continue to ask the public for information. It must have been a very disturbing thing to happen, to have shots fired in the community, so we’re really hoping someone will come forward with information to help us.”
