A talk being held next week aims to help parents address some of their fears about kids and technology.
“Raising Youth in the Digital Age” is a discussion being presented by the Be the Peace Institute, Second Story Womens Centre, South Shore Regional School Board and the Town of Bridgewater.
One of the organizers, Stacey Godsoe with Be the Peace Institute explains why they decided to hold the talk.
“It seemed to be a topic that was heavy on parent’s minds. And one that really sits well with our mandate of healthy relationships and prevention of gender-based violence.”
Godsoe says their keynote speaker, author Nancy Smith will talk about her experience at a school meeting that vilified technology.
“She just felt that, that, not only was alienating kids but it wasn’t really a very practical path forward. And it wasn’t representative of all that technology is.”
Godsoe says young people need to develop a healthy relationship with technology and parents need to be able to provide that guidance.
The event will be held March 28 at Park View Education Centre.
