Today marks the beginning of waste reduction week in Canada.
Organizers are asking people to focus on dead batteries that might be collecting in your home.
Municipal joint services board supervisor, Stephanie Smits says the best plan is to rethink your purchases.
“We do try to encourage that they use a rechargeable battery as opposed to a one-time use battery because it’s something that will last a lot longer and they will get many more uses out of it”
Smits says the regional recycling centre doesn’t currently collect regular batteries but hope to add it to their services.
