Province Outlines Where You Can Smoke Pot

The province plans to update the Smoke-free Places act in this session of the legislature.

It’s in response of the federal government’s legalization of recreational cannabis.

Although you’ll continue to be able to smoke or vape cannabis or tobacco at home or on private property, there will be new restrictions on where you can smoke outside.

Proposed amendments would restrict smoking or vaping cannabis or tobacco near outdoor sport venues, playgrounds, public trails, and provincial parks and beaches.

Using cannabis in vehicles will be illegal.

Health minister Randy Delorey says the move continues the province’s progress of making non-smoking the norm.

Violating the act carries a fine up to $2,000.

The amendments will allow room for municipalities to create additional by-laws as well.
