A new coalition has been established to develop an action plan in response to the recent Ivany Report. That report called for a united effort to renew and transform the province’s economy. The 15-member “one-N-S Coalition” includes the leaders of all three political parties as well as business, labour, culture, health, education, and First Nations. The coalition will develop and deliver a 10-year, province-wide plan to meet population and economic renewal goals. It will also launch a public engagement program to involve all Nova Scotians in the plan. PC Opposition Leader Jamie Baillie says you can count him in to help develop a clear action plan. He tells us: “What the Ivany Report spelled out in great detail is that doing nothing leads to further decline, that we can’t sit back and hope that someday things will get better. We need real leadership starting at the top of our political system to turn the economy around.” The chair of the coalition, Premier Stephen McNeil, says the project will take time, patience and a collective effort to get the province moving in the right direction.
