A new coalition has been established to develop an action plan in response to the recent Ivany Report. That report called for a united effort to renew and transform the province’s economy. The 15-member “one-N-S Coalition” includes the leaders of all three political parties as well as business, labour, culture, health, education, and First Nations. NDP Leader Maureen MacDonald says she hopes politics can stay out of the mix around the discussion table. She says: “My basic position is I am a Nova Scotian. I was a Nova Scotian before I was a New Democrat. I have a very strong interest in seeing our province grow and prosper.” The coalition will develop and deliver a 10-year, province-wide plan to meet population and economic renewal goals. It will also launch a public engagement program to involve all Nova Scotians in the plan. “One Nova Scotia Coalition” chair Premier Stephen McNeil says the project will take time, patience and a collective effort to get the province moving in the right direction.
