Tax Rates Rising In Lunenburg

Residential and commercial tax rates are on the rise in Lunenburg. Town council has approved a spike in the residential tax rate by just over half a cent to $1.28 while the commercial rate is jumping a cent and a half to $3.27. The seasonal tourist tax is also up by over a cent and a half to $2.45. Mayor Rachel Bailey says tax rates are on the rise because of increased costs. She points to policing and school board expenses costing an extra $33,000.
“Those aren’t things we have any control over. Those costs keep rising and we have to try and make up that revenue with our taxes.”
This is the first tax rate increase in Lunenburg in 10 years. The town is expected to finalize their operating and capital budgets for the upcoming year during a special meeting on Thursday.
