Road Closure Results In Earlier Bus Times For Some New Germany Students

A plan is in place to pick-up students earlier who are affected by the road closure in New Germany. The South Shore Regional School Board’s Transportation Department has developed a contingency plan that will see students who live between North River Road, Highway 10 and Copeland Road picked up 20 minutes earlier. The change will be in place until the section of Highway 208 is repaired. A small section of bridge collapsed Tuesday night along the highway. It affects roughly 60 students at New Germany Elementary and New Germany Rural High School. Transportation Analyst Gilbert Jackson says it’s a good solution to the problem.
“What we’ve had to do is re-route one bus to pick up the slack for both buses and its extended one bus route by about 20 minutes. But our hope is we will get students to and from school in a timely manner.”
Students who live between the Ohio road and New Germany will be transported by Route 281 while students on route 283 will be picked up at their regular times. Jackson say they haven’t been given a timeline by the Department of Transportation on how long the road will be closed, but they’re preparing to use the modified bus route for the rest of the school year.
