318 Passenger Cruise Ship To Visit Yarmouth in May

The port of Yarmouth is getting ready to welcome a small cruise ship next month.

The ‘MS Fram,’ which holds 318 passengers will arrive at 10am on May 2nd.

It’s travelling from New York City to Yarmouth during its Atlantic tour.

Yarmouth and Acadian Shores has been working to get more small cruise ships to plan visits to Yarmouth.

YASTA is working with the Atlantic Canada Cruise Association.

The goal of the association is to market partner ports and niche cruise ports, which Yarmouth is now officially listed as.

General Manager Neil MacKenzie says early last year, many local groups came together to see if they could make that happen.

“We looked at the pros and cons of our port, looked at what we had to offer and we came up with a plan on how to market the Port of Yarmouth to small cruise ships.”

The ship will be docked in Yarmouth for six hours.

MacKenzie encourages businesses to be open, be welcoming to the passengers and to create welcome signage or offer special discounts.

“If you see somebody walking around, do what we usually do and just be as welcoming as you can to visitors. If you do recognize that they’re off the ship, give them a warm welcome and tell them to come back.”

The town of Shelburne is also welcoming a cruise ship to port on May 2.

The the ocean liner Marina, with an estimated 1,000 passengers and 800 crew members, will moor in the harbour and ferry passengers ashore in tenders.
