Drivers in Nova Scotia will have to pay closer attention when they take to the roads.
A amendment has been made to the province’s “Move Over” law.
Along with other first responders such as police, fire and EHS personnel, tow truck drivers are now included in Nova Scotia’s “Move Over” law.
NDP MLA for Sackville-Cobequid, Dave Wilson, a former paramedic, has been working for years to have all first responders protected under the law.
“Working as a paramedic, I’ve had many close calls myself, my colleagues, where vehicles travel at high speeds through accident scenes.”
Wilson, has spearheaded efforts to protect tow truck operators for years and says the rules are pretty basic.
“It’s real simple now. If you’re driving on the 100 series highways, you come across a red, blue or yellow light with someone providing service on the side of the road, you need to slow down and move over.”
He says this law is about making their workplace as safe as possible.
Wilson expects the amendment will receive royal ascent once an education campaign is rolled out to inform drivers about the change.
I introduced Bill#52 on Oct 2017. It amends the Motor Vehicle Act. It passed 3rd and final reading today in Nova Scotia. It adds tow operators to the “Move over Legislation”. If you see a Red, Blue or Yellow light on the highway, move over and slow down. #nspoli @TowTruckNews pic.twitter.com/v1zO7WEBWk
