Government Invests In Conversion Of Child Care Spaces

570 child care spaces will be converted to support infant care, toddlers and pre-primary wraparound care.

The province announced they’re spending $2.7 million dollars to meet ‘the changing needs of communities.’

51 centres will receive funding from both the provincial and federal government.

Education Minister Zach Churchill says they want to grow the childcare sector.

“Currently only one in four of our kids are able to access childcare and early learning. We’re also planning on expanding our pre-primary program for four year olds.”

Churchill says a new infant incentive, announced in March, will ensure the 144 new spaces for infants remain affordable.

He says centres will also convert 346 spaces for toddlers and 80 spaces for pre-primary care.

Two spaces in Shelburne County will receive funding, Little Peoples Place on King Street will get over $11,700 and the location on St. Andrews Street will receive over $14,000.
