After Months Of Anticipation Esso Cup Is Set Launch

The final touches are being laid out as Bridgewater prepares to welcome the best female midget hockey players in Canada.

The Esso Cup will be played at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre starting Sunday.

LCLC General Manager and co-chair of the Esso Cup Kevin Benjamin says it’s taken a lot of work from a number of dedicated people to get to this point.

He says what’s most important is to ensure all the athletes are made to feel welcome.

“We want them to be treated with the utmost respect and have that experience as soon as they walk through the doors of the facility. They’ve worked hard to get to this point.”

Benjamin says to play at this level can be a launching point for some athletes.

“They’ll be a number of scouts and college recruiters here during the week. This is the next step in these athlete’s hockey careers would be going to college or university to play. “

Benjamin says some may get looked at to play for under 18 and under 20 Canadian National teams.

And fans could be watching future Olympians.

Benjamin hopes to see big crowds for all the round-robin games this week.

The medal games will be played next Saturday.
