As the province prepares to roll out its new pre-primary program, it’s injecting a total of $2.7 million dollars into regulated childcare centres right across Nova Scotia.
A number of pre-schools in the South Shore area will receive funding from the province as part of that plan.
In Lunenburg County, New Ross Pre-School will see $44,400.00, Through the Years will receive $10,000.00, while Bridgewater Day Care will get $5,000.00 in funding.
In Shelburne County, Little Peoples Place (King Street location) will see $11,742.00 in funding while their St. Andrews location will receive $14,060.00.
Education Minister, Zach Churchill, says the money will help the school not only expand their services but adapt to the new pre-primary program that’s coming in.
“This money’s being used to create a 144 new infant care spaces in the province, close to 350 new toddler spaces and 80 spaces that are providing wrap-around care in communities where there’s pre-primary being given,” says Minister Churchill.
And the need for expansion is definitely there as only 1 in 4 toddlers in the province have access to pre-primary care.
“We need to expand the regulated childcare sector and also pre-primary top make sure that every single family and child in our province has access to these great opportunities,” adds Churchill.
