Powering Pride In Liverpool

Rainbow colors are shining bright around Liverpool.

A group of seven people, mostly students, put multi-colored duct tape around power poles to show their support for the LGBTQ community.

The pride colors can be seen on poles on Market and Main Streets and Henry Hensey Drive.

Councillor Brian Fralic helped with the initiative and says it sends a great message to the community.

“Acceptance and understanding diversity and understanding the LGBTQ community and what they require and what they need from their community.”

It was done in conjunction with the beginning of Pride Week in Halifax, which started on Thursday.

Fralic says it helps show support.

“It sends out to young people in our community, gay or straight, that we are a town that will support them no matter what they do.”

Fralic says not everyone was in favour of their display but it helps get the conversation going.

He suspects the tape will remain on the poles until Pride Week concludes.
