Two records and a second place finish.
Not a bad way to mark your first appearance at the Canadian Track and Field Championships in Edmonton.
Dave Waters of Fox Point won a silver in the men’s para javelin, setting the national record in the F-36 class with a throw of 25.41 metres.
He also set a Canadian record in the men’s para discus with a toss of 25.85 metres.
Waters says he’s proud.
“At the end of the day, I’m more happy about the two Canadian records than I am about the silver surprisingly enough, but very pleased.”
Waters made the switch to athletics this summer after spending time as a paddler and representing Canada on a few occasions.
He was trying to paddle his way to the paralympics but his category was removed.
Waters hasn’t decided if he’ll compete at the Atlantic Track and Field Championships next weekend in Saint John.
