Lumberjacks Owner Looking For Billets, Sponsors For Upcoming Year

The owner of the South Shore Lumberjacks is pleading for help from the community.

Roughly 40 days remain until training camp opens for the Junior ‘A’ hockey club.

Larry Creaser says they are in desperate need for families to billet hockey players for the upcoming season.

He says players are traveling from far away and need a local place to call home.

“It’s family and that’s what we want to promote. It’s not just to find a bed, it’s to find a stable environment for these kids that we can call their parents and say ‘Hey, don’t worry, they’re safe’.”

More than a dozen billet families are needed.

Meanwhile, Junior ‘A’ hockey is a cash-driven business.

It’s a fact that is well-known by Creaser.

With an annual budget upwards of $400,000, he’s hoping to see more businesses jump on board and support the local hockey club.

“You’re volunteering your money to make something successful in your area to make a better community, a stronger community. That’s what is needed right now.”

Creaser says the team goes through a lot of money to be competitive and local sponsorship is a big help.
