Homeowners in four communities now have access to money for major environmental renovations.
A $550,000 pot has been pooled by the Municipality of Lunenburg in partnership with Digby, Bridgewater, and Shelburne. It’s a new program called Clean Energy Upgrades Funding.
Mayor Don Downe says this initiative is part of a bigger priority.
“This is all about our commitment to the environment,” he says. “It’s all about helping our residents to become ‘greener,’ some people say, to reduce their energy costs.”
He says these investments will help the whole community.
“One of the biggest problems is accessing capitol. This will help some people to be able to access capitol to do what they need to do and make our community greener.”
Loans of up to $10,000 will be given to successful applicants.
Downe says he hopes to see the program to grow as people become aware of it.
