The Municipality of Lunenburg is trying to find a better way to deal with dangerous and unsightly properties.
Deputy CAO, Alex Dumaresq, says a small committee has been created to make it easier for residents.
He says homeowners sometimes find it hard to face the entire council.
“We feel that a smaller group that is less formal will be less intimidating for some of the members of the community who have been forced to come before the committee,” he says.
Dumaresq says dealing with homeowners who’ve been asked to fix or clean up their property is difficult.
“There’s often other issues involved,” he says. “Whether they’re financial resources or unique relationships within the community.”
Dumaresq says the committee will try to be compassionate while making sure that the legislated standards are met.
