Municipal Units Contribute Money Towards Sledge Hockey Challenge

Local funding is starting to build up for the World Sledge Hockey Challenge in January.

The Municipality of Chester is the latest to contribute after council decided to provide $2,500 to the cause.

Co-chair of the host committee, Dave Waters, says it helps cover the $185,000 cost.

“The support, really, at the end of the day makes the event go from running the event to really hitting it out of the park and showing Hockey Canada and the rest of the world what we can do in Lunenburg county.”

Bridgewater and the Municipality of Lunenburg are also giving $5,000 each while the town of Lunenburg agreed on $1,000.

Corporate sponsorship is expected to be handed out this week.

Waters says their last request will be at Mahone Bay council on November 10.

Three teams are confirmed including Canada, the U.S. and Russia.
