Praise For South Shore at 2018 ESSO Cup

As the ESSO Cup Canadian Midget Women’s Hockey Championship winds down, the feedback from the visiting hockey teams has been nothing but positive.

Dan Auchenburg, Head Coach of the reigning champion St. Albert Slash, says they’ve been enjoying the South Shore in their downtime; whether a campfire by the ocean, a lobster boil or ride on the LaHave Cable Ferry.

“It’s been amazing, the girls are astonished and everything, from how they’ve been treated here and it’s just unbelievable,” says Auchenburg, whose team is in the ESSO Cup for the second year straight. “Everything here has been great, Hockey Canada has put on a great tournament here, the venue is great and area is beautiful.”

And Auchenburg isn’t the only one giving kudos to the South Shore and host town Bridgewater.

Troy Reid, Head Coach of the Pictou based Northern Selects, told CKBW following a game on Wednesday, just how impressed he and the players are with the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre.

“There’s not a scratch, not scrape on the ice when we step on to play every day, it’s unbelievable,” says Reid. “The venue and everyone involved has made the girls feel really special, like they’re NHL.”

The coaches and players from all six teams in the tournament were able to spend their down time exploring and taking in much of what the South Shore region has to offer.

The ESSO Cup Championship Final Gold Medal Game goes Saturday, April 28th, 2017 at 7pm at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre in Bridgewater, NS.
