One Man’s Blue Dream Is About Set Sail

Lunenburg will witness the launch of a new ship and environmental campaign tomorrow.

For the last two years, Francesco Nanni and his team have been building a schooner in the Bluenose shed.

It was important to Nanni they followed traditional shipbuilding methods.

” A wooden boat is made up of many, many pieces and they’re all stuck together. And together, they make a whole. And that’s exactly how everything really works.”

The ship is part of the Blue Dream Project, an effort to educate and raise awareness around the issues of plastics pollution in the oceans.

“It’s not just the plastic, it not just about a wooden boat or the ocean, it’s the whole picture. You know? What are we doing with our lives and with our planet?”

Nanni says the vessel’s name will remain secret until the boat is christened at the launch at 9:00 Saturday morning.
