Canadians Are Spending With More Confidence

That ringing in your ears is likely the sound of cash registers as Canadians are spending with more confidence this year.

According to a report released by Moneris, consumers have increased spending by five and a half percent over the same time last year.

Chief Product Officer with Moneris, Rob Cameron says Nova Scotia saw the greatest increase in sales, spending six and a half percent more this year over last. That’s a full percent higher than the national average.

He says it’s a trend that has continued for almost two years.

But Canadians didn’t forget about those less fortunate.

Cameron also says more money was given to charities, especially during the Alberta wildfires in May.

“Canadians were definitely reaching in and trying to help out our friends in Fort MacMurray. So we saw a huge spike in charitable giving in the month of May.”

Donations jumped by 60% that month as Canadians rushed to the aid of Albertans.
