Special Coverage: Landfill Fire In Milton

Several fire departments are on scene of a fire at the Region of Queens Waste Management facility in Milton.

It was reported around 9 a.m this morning.

Fire departments from three counties responded they include Bridgewater, Liverpool, Greenfield, Tri-District, Lunenburg, Italy Cross, Annapolis Royal, Hebbville, and North Queens.

Port Medway was sent to Liverpool Fire Hall and Hemford was called to Caledonia in case further help was needed.

Liverpool Fire Chief Steven Parnell says the fire is under control.

“Pretty much just wetting down the hot spots right now, but it’s going to be awhile because we have to take the excavators and dig it all out, then lay it out and wet every piece down, piece by piece.”

The cause of the fire is not yet known and Parnell says with a landfill, it could be almost anything.

Parnell points to the comaraderie among the fire service as a big help in battling the fire.
