Nova Scotia’s premier admits he is starting to think about dates for the next provincial election.
However, he remains tight-lipped.
The Liberal government will mark three years in office this October.
Many speculating there could be a fall election, based on the party’s move to have all candidate nomination meetings held before September.
Stephen McNeil says he has to be prepared.
“That would be inappropriate for me to not ask my people to be nominated so I can then go out and identify candidates, it takes a long time. I don’t know if you’ve ever known anyone who has ever run for office, you just don’t make the decision overnight.”
McNeil adds, he’s also on his annual summer tour around the province.
But he says some still believe it’s a sign that an election is just around the corner.
“If you’re not out there being active, knocking on doors in your constituencies as an MLA in the summer, you’re not doing your job. If you’re not out there talking to people, presenting information whether it’s an election year or non-election year, that’s what MLAs do.”
A by-election was called over the weekend in the Halifax Needham riding for August 30.
