Dog Days Of Summer Here To Stay

Environment Canada says these warm sunny days are going to continue right through the end of summer.

Senior Climatologist David Phillips says people haven’t been imagining that it’s been warmer than other years.

But he says they aren’t quite record setting.

“The number of days, say, where the max temperature in the afternoon got above 25`,” he says, “I think there’s been, not quite double those, but there’s certainly been, say, eleven of those in July where normally there would be only seven.”

And that’s bad news if you’re finding the summer a little hot for your liking.

Worse, Phillips says once it lets up, an extra active hurricane season will arrive right behind it.

“If you’re a ‘weather weenie’, and many people in the maritimes truly are, you’ve got that season to look forward to. My sense is, hey, we should just enjoy the kind of summer we’ve had because you know what’s coming down the pipe.

He says when you’re sweating out the summer heat it’s easy to forget that winter is only a few short months away.
