Wastewater Troubles In The Municipality Of Lunenburg

The Municipality of Lunenburg is spending up to $10,000 to figure out what’s wrong at their wastewater treatment plant.

Last winter the plant put out ammonia readings well above what’s allowed by Nova Scotia Environment.

Acting Director of Engineering Satu Peori says there tends to be more ammonia when temperatures drop but this year was particularly hard.

“Last winter was so cold for so long,” she says, “that it really became obvious that we need to something about this.”

Peori says they’ve hired the original designers of the plant to figure out what steps need to be taken.

The municipality hopes to have it solved before winter, but they say until they know what’s wrong they’re not sure how long a fix could take.
